Matthew McConaughey says he’s ‘considering’ running for governor of Texas

Matthew McConaughey announced on an episode of “The Balanced Voice Podcast” that he’s seriously considering a gubernatorial run in Texas. After host Rania Mankarious mentioned the actor running for governor in his home state, McConaughey replied, “It’s a true consideration. I’m looking into now again, what is my leadership role?”  The 51-year-old Oscar winner added: “Because I do think I have some things to teach and share, and what is my role? What’s my category in my next chapter of life that I’m going into?”

McConaughey didn’t share details of a possible run; however the Texas gubernatorial election will take place in November 2022 so he would need to make a decision to run soon. Back in November, McConaughey told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt: “I would say this: Look, politics seems to be a broken business to me right now.” McConaughey has not publicly acknowledged his political affiliation, though he has called for a need for “aggressive centrism” in the past.
